Transmux
Free For Ubuntu and Windows

Convert video and audio. Skip the command line.

Transmux is a clean desktop media converter. Drag in a file, pick an output format, and let FFmpeg do the work, with live progress tracking.

  • Converts locally
  • No account
  • No telemetry
  • Free for personal use
How it works

Drop in a file. Pick a format. Convert.

Inspect a file's format and streams, choose what comes out, and convert without touching a command line.

Open a file

Use the file picker or drag a file onto the window. Transmux inspects its format and its video, audio and subtitle streams.

Pick an output format

Transmux suggests the best output for your input codec, such as H.264 and AAC to MP4, or VP9 and Opus to WebM.

Convert

Follow live speed and ETA, cancel at any point, and open the output folder when the conversion completes.

What it does

Convert once, play anywhere.

Video and audio in one tool, with the decisions FFmpeg needs made for you and the controls you want left in reach.

FFmpeg powered

Solid conversion through FFmpeg, bundled with Windows release builds so it works out of the box.

Wide format support

MP4, WebM, MKV, AVI, MOV, MP3, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WAV and Opus: video and audio in one tool.

Smart format detection

Suggests the best output format for your input codec: H.264 and AAC to MP4, VP9 and Opus to WebM.

Subtitles and audio tracks

Choose which audio and subtitle tracks to include, extract subtitles to separate files, or skip them entirely.

Smart conversion modes

Stream copy for instant conversions or a full re-encode for quality. Transmux spots when the source already matches the target and skips needless re-encoding.

Live progress

Real-time speed and ETA while converting, with cancel support at any point.

Conversion history

Every conversion is kept with a timestamp. Review past operations and open their output folders quickly.

Keyboard shortcuts

Open, convert and switch modes from the keyboard, or use your mouse. Press ? for the full list.

Your streams, your call

Keep the tracks you want. Drop the rest.

A movie rarely has just one audio track and one subtitle. Transmux shows every stream it finds and lets you decide what ends up in the output.

  • Pick which audio tracks to include in the conversion.
  • Include subtitles in the output, extract them to .srt or .ass, or strip them, across several tracks at once.
  • Fast mode stream-copies without re-encoding; full re-encode converts to the format's target codec and quality.
